FOSTERING PREMIER RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT
The housing market is a picture of vigorous health in Rancho Mirage. At present, more than a dozen residential development projects are under construction in the city. In addition, many upscale housing and assisted-living projects along with numerous supporting retail developments and medical facilities are in various stages of planning, with several of them expected to commence construction soon.
The city's reputation is built on its first-class residential developments. In its history, Rancho Mirage enjoyed a steady growth of new country club development: Thunderbird, Tamarisk, Desert Island, The Springs, Sunrise, Mission Hills, Rancho Las Palmas and Morningside all helped shape the community's lush look. Since emerging from Southern California's recession of the early to mid-1990s, Rancho Mirage has experienced a housing development surge in the past six years. Some popular new housing projects include Artisan, Cypress Pointe, Ivy League Estates, La Terraza, Mirada, Mira Vista, Santo Tomas, Sterling Estates Victoria Falls, Mission Shores, Legacy Island, and Versailles.
Luxurious country clubs, residential communities and new resort hotels all have helped increase the assessed valuation of real estate in the city and will continue to have a positive impact on that valuation in the coming years. In 2002 alone, single-family residential construction totaled over $123 million, with more than 400 new homes completed.
Rancho Mirage's approach to residential development focuses on a streamlined permit process, quality city services, carefully planned infrastructure and an entrepreneurial "can-do" attitude. Using the city's administrative tools wisely, elected officials and city staff have worked in a uniquely collaborative manner allowing Rancho Mirage to capitalize on new development opportunities while sustaining an outstanding resort living experience that appeals to all age groups.
